In the heart of the shelter, amidst the echoes of barks, there lies little Athina ❤ with a heart as big as the sky. Her days are spent in waiting, hoping for a human hug and that moment when dog and human eyes meet. I won’t even try to describe that indescribable moment, knowing that those who experienced it understand the depths involved. And that’s exactly the kind of glance she waits for and is very happy when I enter her yard, in the hope that she will get the chance to enchant me with her sparkling eyes – to take her to another world.
But Athina is strange, she radiates fragility and tenderness and, at the same time, a strong and unwavering spirit. Don’t let her small stature fool you – Athina is a fighter, she (so far) manages to survive at the shelter and will make sure no one tries to steal her toy or food from her plate. Every time I am surprised when I see how she holds on among bigger dogs, how she endures the cold nights in the shelter… Athina is not a dog for that – her place is in a warm room, in wide spaces she will explore, in adventures, in socializing with other dogs in nice dog parks and finally – in human hugs 🥰.
Life hasn’t given Athena much so far, but she doesn’t give up, as if she knows that love, when it finally finds its way to her after all the trials, will be even sweeter.
