Her refuge is a cold box, where she hides from the only world she knows—the one that barks. She’d love to join the other dogs at play, yes, she really would, she loves to play… but she doesn’t dare; she’s just too afraid. Once in a while, rarely, we see her relaxed and enjoying a bit of play, and we’re happy with her in those moments.
She’d also love to surrender to a hand that pets her, but fear takes over again, so she comes close for a moment, then quickly retreats back to her corner.
It’s a sad life, and we can’t help her enough here at the shelter. She needs much, much more—great patience and great love. Then she’ll be the happiest, most beautiful dog in the world.
We can’t quite say she’s ready for her people—it’s more important that there are people ready to heal her wounded soul.
